NOISE CONTROL SPECIALISTS
Hearing Testing or Monitoring Audiometry allows management to identify those employees exhibiting hearing impairment and demonstates the effectiveness of the program.
Noise exposure damages the nerves in the inner ear. This is preventable but not reversible. Therefore periodic (ideally on an annual basis) hearing testing determines if an employee has a hearing loss and if that hearing loss is progressing by comparing the results over time.
The process is simple. Our Certified Occupational Hearing Conservationists roll in an Audiometric Booth (see picture right) which fits through a standard door. The booth should be set up in an area away from the source of the noise. Each scheduled employee completes an intake sheet (auditory related medical questionnaire). Following the questionnaire which takes approximately 1-2 minutes to complete, the employee is settled into the booth, given instructions, fitted with ear phones and the response switch. The audiometric screening test takes approximately 7 minutes to complete.
The use of an Audiometric Testing Booth instead of a mobile truck system ensures more accurate results. It offers a more controlled environment by eliminating most background noises caused by traffic, pedestrians and surrounding industry.
